 Campus

Summer is in full swing on campus. Many of the students are home for summer.

We still have a many athletes that remain here taking summer course work and training for next season. We have a steady group of 10-15 students that continue to attend Huddle each week. We continue to provide dinner and bible study for the students each week and the smaller group size provides a great opportunity for the group to get to know each other better. Josh and Courtney are continuing to meet weekly with 10-15 athletes individually for discipleship. Josh and Courtney have had great opportunities to connect with many of the incoming freshman and are excited to see the young adults God is bringing to the teams. Many of the students come from a very strong Christian background and are expressing desire to connect with FCA. Josh has been able to be involved in the football camps here at WVU and to present FCA during a voluntary huddle offered during the camp. During the 3rd-7th grade football camp we had about 40 kids come hear Dave Johnson speak. During the 8th-12th grade football camp about 20 students attended. We are very blessed to have the opportunity to represent FCA during the camp experience. Josh will be helping with the men’s soccer camp next week. God continues to open great opportunities to serve on campus. We hope to take several of the student’s white water rafting later this month. Summer is a very casual time with the students. Since we have a smaller group we are able to meet at different locations. This summer we will be hosting cook-outs and gatherings at various off campus locations.

Coaches

Most of our coach’s studies are on summer break. However, our all-sports study continues to meet and study through the book of Galatians. We have been very encouraged by the coach’s receptiveness to our staff and inviting us into their fields of play. Presently, 15 of the 16 teams have welcomed us to be involved in their programs. We clearly see God’s favor opening opportunities in every team. Please continue to pray for our coaches and their families as they travel throughout the summer and have precious time to spend with their families before they resume school in the fall.

Community

Pikewood Creative has completed the production of our WVU FCA promotional video. We have distributed over 400 copies of the DVD. You can view the video directly on our website www.wvufca.org or please email Shawn at sfrasher@fca.org and receive your own personal copy. This summer has been very busy with events. May 30th we hosted our first annual “Celebration of Mountaineer Athletics” banquet. We honored Coach Jim Carlen and the Carlen Era of Mountaineer football (1966-1969). 27 former players returned for the reunion style event. Coach Carlen returned to Morgantown for the first time since he left in 1969 and was genuinely blessed by the event honoring him. The whole evening was a wonderful celebration of the influence Coach Carlen had on the football program and the lives of his players. Coach Carlen began FCA at WVU in 1967, establishing the legacy of FCA at WVU. Several former players spoke and shared very touching appreciation for the great influence Coach had in their lives. We were pleased to have nearly 250 folks join us for the event at the Waterfront Place Hotel. Governor Manchin presented Coach Carlen with an Honorary Mountaineer Award in recognition of his contributions to the State of WV. We hope this will become an annual event to celebrate individuals that have contributed significantly to Mountaineer Athletics throughout the years. Save the date for May 2010 for next year’s banquet.

Dave Hendrickson hosted WVU FCA to Charleston for a luncheon with Coach Stewart. It was a wonderful opportunity to share what is happening at WVU through the ministry of FCA.

We will be returning to Bridgeport in July for a fundraising dinner hosted by Jim & Patty Smith and Carmen Cann.
